reflections on my digital footprint
Here we are, September 2026, northern hemisphere living means that autumn is fast approaching. One can feel the slightly (and I mean slightly) cooler air, one can notice the early autumn wildflowers as they pop up from the ground where they’ve been waiting for the right time to announce themselves. One can also feel a sort of childlike grief, another summer gone by (and we don’t get many in our lifetimes) and the threat of a winter ahead on the horizon. While we are here in this liminal space between seasons, I thought I’d take a moment to look around, and if you happen to be reading this, let’s look around together.
This summer was laden with lessons, particularly august packing quite the astrological punch. I feel almost hungover from all the ups and downs, yet somehow feel unmoved by it all. Almost like I’ve traveled in a circle? Anyone else? At the same time I wish I could have been more present and really soaked it all in, but a part of me was anxiously waiting for the arrival of this current moment, September. Perhaps it’s out of habit, after all, I always started school around this time of year as a child. Maybe my inner clock waits for the turn of the season to get started again. Whatever it is, I feel I’ve woken up from a thick hazy dream and I’m still trying to shake off the residue.
Existential confusion
I am simultaneously painfully aware of how short our time on earth is (and therefore that I should create/make my mark as an individual while I still can!!!) and a very self-judging perfectionist. I wonder if I ever will feel “ready” to really put myself out there and have my work tasted by the masses. I certainly have a lot to say (sorry for the 30 minute voice notes friends) and I definitely possess some talent, or at least I’ve been told that. The struggle really is catching the wave of momentum. I find it a lot easier to go inward than I do to put myself out there, and that is the force I am trying to fight against this autumn.
Even as I sit here and type up this blog post, I am confronted with “What are you going to say???”. I feel that we’ve lost the art of experiencing and savoring the raw thoughts of an individual. Without falling too much into the trap of lamenting about the shortened attention span/dopamine addicted masses… (I actually couldn’t finish that sentence without being another voice on the internet complaining about the internet so never mind). Communque (sorry my brain works in half italian/half english now) all I have to say is that these are confusing times for man and woman alike (I find it annoying that we linguistically refer to the entire human race as “man” but maybe that’s a topic for another time).
Ok, we made it out of that mess of a paragraph but maybe now you’re getting a better picture of the smoothie I have for brains after this summer cooked out my organizing neurons. Can those grow back? Just wondering.
Ending on a positive note?
If you couldn’t already tell, I have been avoiding writing these blog posts and something (my agenda) told me to write one, which I sat down like a good pupil and did my homework, but alas, without a clear direction or inspiring message to leave any of you with. Maybe that’s just what we all need right now, a little bit of unfinished business to contrast the neatly packaged, punchy statements we are so used to consuming these days. After all, you (reader) and I are doing a sort of dance at the moment, partaking in a relationship with one another, albeit a small one without a lot of commitment required. That’s a beautiful thing in and of itself!
Maybe this post here isn’t as useless as I think it is! Maybe its worth the natural resources required to host this data on our screens! I saw someone say somewhere in this vast internet landscape (not a direct quote, can’t find the original post) that posting on instagram is like throwing a plastic bottle in the ocean. Now, I’m not one for reductive clickbait metaphors but I think she’s really got close to something. It’s true in a way that we humans have managed to pollute the online landscape just like our real life one. I haven’t been on instagram in over a year but when I was active on it, it felt necessary to comb through a lot of crap before finding anything of value, and let’s not even get started on AI polluting the already dismal space at an even more rapid rate. So perhaps this is the point of this whole piece right here, a relic of real human thinking. Maybe there’s some typos or grammatical errors, but isn’t that the point? It’s not all bad, this online world can make such beautiful magic happen in real life, and I love being able to witness humanity at a global scale on a regular basis. Maybe let’s all just start thinking a little more about our online footprint too.
While you’re here, I am looking for restaurants/chefs around the world for a special collaboration offer! IF you or anyone you know of is looking for some handmade ceramics, let’s chat :)
