Come and discover the art of throwing clay on the potter's wheel in this intimate, hands-on introduction to high-fire stoneware.

Over two hours, we'll explore the fundamentals of wheel throwing together — from preparing and centering the clay to opening, pulling and shaping your first forms. I'll guide you through the process step by step, while also giving you an introduction to stoneware clay, high-fire ceramics, and how they differ from low-fire earthenware.

This workshop is designed as a first introduction rather than a traditional pottery class: the focus is on getting your hands into the clay, learning how the wheel works, and enjoying the process of making.

What to expect

• A short introduction to stoneware and high-fire ceramics

• Demonstration and guidance at the wheel

• Hands-on throwing practice

• An introduction to basic forms and techniques

• A small, intimate group of maximum 3 participants

• The workshop can be held in English and/or Italian, depending on the needs of the group

You are welcome to make as many attempts as time allows. Pieces made during the introductory workshop are not guaranteed to be kept or fired, as learning to throw takes practice and not every first piece is suitable for firing.

If you enjoy the experience and would like to continue, your pieces can be carefully stored at the studio and you can return for a follow-up workshop, where we'll learn how to trim and finish your work on the wheel.

This is a chance to slow down, get your hands dirty and begin to discover the particular pleasure of working with clay on the wheel.
